Two-days Sensitisation Workshop on ‘Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ through virtual mode on 22-23 February, 2021

Wildlife Institute of India with support from Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India had organized two-days sensitisation workshop on ‘Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ through virtual mode on 22-23rd February, 2021. The objective of the workshop to enrich the understanding on urban biodiversity and ecosystems services to the personnel of other than Forest services. Government Officials, NGOs, Town Planners, Academicians of Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh States were participated, interacted and discussed about the issues and challenges on urban biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, management and financing. Dr. Dhananjai Mohan, Director WII delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the importance of urban biodiversity conservation. Dr. Sanjay Sondhi (Founder Titli Trust), Dr. Monalisa Sen, (Programme Coordinator ICLEI), Dr. Lokesh Ohri, (Independent Director, Dehradun Smart City Limited), Dr. Raman Kumar (Director, Nature Science Initiative), Dr. K Sivakumar (Scientist, WII) and Dr. Gautam Talukdar (Scientist, WII) gave their valuable inputs and discuss on various aspects like nature-based solutions to address climate change & biodiversity conservation, City Biodiversity Index, Citizen Science Initiative for ecological monitoring, impacts of urban expansion on biodiversity & ecosystem services, role of administration & local bodies in conservation of urban biodiversity etc. The workshop was ended with the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries.
