to engage Junior Research Fellows

 

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 03 Junior Research Fellows (Indian National only) through a walk-in-interview on Thursday, 30th January 2014. The details of the available position along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below:

Project Title, details of position and duration

Ecology, taxonomy and conservation of fish diversity in Subansiri river basin of Arunachal Pradesh, Northeast India.

 (01 – Junior Research Fellow)

Duration: Three Years

Essential Qualification

Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Environmental Science/Forestry/Life Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Experience in fish ecology, Aquatic biology, Knowledge on fish fauna of Northeast India.

Description of Work

The project aims to document the diversity, distribution and resource (space and food) utilization patterns of stream fishes in upper Subansiri river basin in Arunachal Pradesh.

Project Title, details of position and duration

Monitoring land use by wildlife, livestock and humans in khangchendzonga biosphere reserve.

 (01 – Junior Research Fellow)

Duration: Up to May 2014 (likely to be extended)

Essential Qualification

Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Biology/Zoology/Forestry/Botany/Environment Science/Life Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Field research experience in the field of wildlife biology/sociology or park-people interface aspects/GIS. Ability to speak and understand Nepali language would be of advantage.

Only candidates with strong physical and mental abilities and a keen desire to carryout arduous field work in the remote and rugged high altitudes of the Sikkim Himalaya under extreme cold or rainy conditions with minimal logistic support may apply.

Description of Work

This project aims to develop a spatial database on the land use patterns by wildlife, livestock and humans in Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve and develop a programme for monitoring the use of wildlife, livestock and humans in Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve. This project involves extensive and field work in the remote, rugged, high altitude regions of Sikkim Himalayan region and also extensive lab work related to dietary analysis, molecular genetic studies, and computer based modeling analysis.

Project Title, details of position and duration

Status and Habitat assessment of Bengal Florican Houbaropsis bengalensis in the grasslands of Uttar Pradesh.

(01 – Junior Research Fellow)

Duration: Up to July 2014

Essential Qualification

Masters’ Degree in Life Science/Wildlife Science/Environmental Science/Ecology/ Forestry/Zoology with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Research experiences in wildlife population assessment and birds ecology. Candidates holding Certificate/Diploma in Remote Sensing will be preferred.

Description of Work

The study aims to assess the population status and habitat use of Bengal florican in the State of Uttar Pradesh. The JRF will conduct extensive field works in and around the Dudwa Tiger Reserve, analyse data and publish research findings.

 

GENERALTERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Candidate(s) possessing Master’s Degree along with final year mark-sheet will only be eligible to appear for the walk-in-interview. Candidates appearing in the final year of Masters’ Degree Program will not be eligible to apply for the advertised position.

  2. Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of Junior Research Fellow as on Tuesday, 28th January 2014. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  3. Selected candidate for the advertised position of JRF will be paid a consolidated emolument of Rs. 12,000/- per month as fellowship. In case of NET qualified candidates (UGC/CSIR) for Research Fellows, the selected JRF will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- per month.

  4. Selected candidate shall be engaged initially for a period of two years initially. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Institute and satisfactory performance of the candidate.

  5. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  6. The selection will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Thursday, 30th January 2014 at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehra Dun and the registration for the advertised position will be done from 09:00 to 10:00hrs on 30th January 2014 at WII.

  7. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  8. Candidate(s) should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra-curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  9. One way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.

  10. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
