The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage 05 research personnel viz., 03-Project Biologists and 02-Technical Assistants (Indian national only) through a walk-in-interview on Monday, 3rd March 2014. The details of the available positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below:

Project Title, details of position and duration

Execution of Implementation Plan - Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI).

 (03 – Project  Biologists)

Duration: Up to 31.12.2014 (likely to be extended)

Essential Qualification

Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Botany/Wildlife Science/Forestry/Environmental Science relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife conservation with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

  • Field research experience on flora and fauna of western Himalaya.

  • Only candidates with strong physical and mental abilities and a keen desire to carryout arduous field work in the remote and rugged high altitudes of Uttarakhand Himalaya under extreme cold or rainy conditions with minimal logistic support, may apply.

Description of Work

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in collaboration with Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development (GBPIHED), Almora and Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun under the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India and Central Himalayan Environment Association (CHEA), Nainital is working in a Trans-boundary Landscape i.e. Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI).

 

The project has following broad objectives a. Enhance cooperation among the regional member countries through establishment of a Regional Cooperation Framework (RCF), development of a strategy for conservation of Kailash Sacred Landscape (KSL), and developing a trans-boundary regional knowledge base; b. Increase collection of climate change data in the KSL and facilitate coordination among the various actors and stakeholders within the KSL landscape through enhancing trans-boundary collaboration in ecological and climate change monitoring and information exchange networks; and c. Recognize, and strengthen local capacity efforts for community-based participation in conservation and sustainable development, and enhance cultural-socio-ecological resilience.

Project Title, details of position and duration

Economics of living in the wild: cost-benefit analysis for the forest corridor linking the Rajaji National Park and the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

(02 – Technical Assistants)

Duration: 9 months (likely to be extended)

Essential Qualification

Masters’ Degree in Forestry/Wildlife Science/Environmental Science/Life Science/ Sociology/Economics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Experience of conducting socio-economic surveys for natural resource management/ Biodiversity Conservation/Forestry/Environment issues.

Description of Work

Conduct socio-economic surveys in and around Corbett Tiger Reserve, Rajaji National Park and the adjacent Forest Divisions.

GENERALTERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Candidate(s) possessing Master’s Degree along with final year mark-sheet will only be eligible to appear for the walk-in-interview. Candidates appearing in the final year of Masters’ Degree Program will not be eligible to apply for the advertised positions. 

  2. Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised positions of Project Biologists and Technical Assistants as on Friday, 28th February 2014. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  3. Selected candidate(s) for the advertised positions of Project Biologists shall be paid a consolidated emolument of Rs. 16,000/- per month as fellowship. In addition, Rs. 2000/- per month will be paid as Daily Allowance, while in field.

  4. The fellowship amount for the advertised positions of Technical Assistant shall be paid a consolidated emolument of Rs. 9,600/- per month as fellowship.

  5. Selected candidate(s) will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against each advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Institute and satisfactory performance of the candidate.

  6. Candidate(s) may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  7. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 3rd March 2014 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration for all advertised positions will be done from 09:00 to 10:00hrs.

  8. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  9. Candidate(s) should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra-curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  10. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
