Why
Forensic Science ?
- Major threats
causing decline in biodiversity are habitat degradation and
poaching for illegal trade. One of WII mandates is to strengthen
field conservation and various aspects of implementation of
Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act-1972
- A number of
cases failed as prosecution could not establish species from
parts, products or derivatives. This prompted the need to
develop Wildlife Forensic Science at WII to provide scientific
expert opinion. Wildlife Forensics is a relatively new science
in Indian wildlife management or even for that matter in south
East Asia.
