Dr. K. Sankar, M.Sc., M.Phil, Ph.D.
Professor & Research Coordinator
I did my M.Sc. in Wildlife Biology from Bharatidasan University, Tamil Nadu, and obtained Ph.D., researching on herbivore ecology in Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan. With assistance from Dr. Salim Ali's Conservation Fund, I had worked on ungulate food habits for the M.Sc. project. My M.Phil work was on the Shore birds of Point Calimere Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu. Before joining the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), I was a Field Biologist at Bharatpur in B.N.H.S. Hydrobiology Project. After I joined WII as a faculty member in 1986, till now has worked on several large ungulates (chital, sambar, nilgai, gaur), endangered primates and large carnivores (tiger, leopard, wild dog). I am currently working on sympatric carnivores and mountain ungulates. I have several scientific papers and books published to my credit. At the Institute I have been given additional responsibilities of coordinating research activities and heading the research laboratory. I am a keen sportsman with special interest in lawn tennis and cricket. I am married and have a daughter.
