About us

EIACP Programme Centre Resource Partner “Wildlife & Protected Areas”, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun formerly known as ENVIS was established as the 23rd Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Centre in India in September 1997. 

The Programme Centre is a repository of all information, publications and other value added products on its assigned subject area; maintaining database; conducting various events and activities across the year including mass awareness campaigns and events on Mission LiFE and SAP; conducting GSDP courses and capacity building programmes and other mandated activities as directed by MoEF&CC.

The vision of Environmental Information Awareness Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) are:

  • To disseminate information on wildlife sciences and provide information for decision-making at the apex level relating to wildlife conservation and Protected Area management.
  • To support and facilitate the diverse group of clientele from policy makers to researchers and Industries and common man at national and international level on a possible range of environmental data and information through a nation-wide web enabled network.
  • To provide a comprehensive environmental information database under the identified subject areas, local conditions and issues pertaining to the environment of the country.
  • To promote awareness on issues like curbing single use of plastics or any other environment related issue of urgency/importance through the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP), which is an Inter-Ministerial initiative.
  • To be involved in the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) conceptualized by the MoEFCC.
  • To make an efficient tool to protect and conserve our ecosystems and biodiversity that transforms the young India with enhanced skill and employment through conducting the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) .
  • To develop green skilled youths having technical knowledge and commitment for sustainable development, which will help in conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity. Also, to aid sustainable livelihoods of tribal population especially in NER based on traditional knowledge and crafts.
  • To conserve and restore the health and resilience of Wildlife Protected Areas/ Zoos with support of green skilled youth.
  • To ensure ecologically sustainable use of biodiversity and benefits the current and future generations of India.
